Mandy is Home!!

February 6, 2011--Mandy has captured the heart of a staff member at the shelter. Welcome home Mandy! ********************************************************************** February 2, 2011--New pictures of Mandy. ********************************************************************** Initial Post 1/14/11--Mandy is a Lynx Point Siamese with blue eyes, around 12 years old, now living at the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland shelter. She is spayed and fully clawed. She is eating grain-free wet food only and has a good appetite. She is about 9 lbs., and her build is typical of Siamese. Mandy is an indoor cat. Mandy is described as a very sweet lap cat, a cuddler. She likes to participate. Detailed information is not available because her human, to whom she was bonded, died. She is depressed and unhappy at the shelter, although trying to make the best of a situation that is not her fault. Mandy has lived with cats and dogs. We do not know her disposition around children. Mandy was surrendered to the shelter in mid-November, 2010. Shelter works observed excessive drinking and urination (PU/PD). She had bloodwork and a urinalysis, which was normal except for glucose. Her blood glucose level was in the upper 200s. She has no history of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) or hypoglycemia. Mandy started on BCP PZI, 1 unit BID, on 12/6/10. That dosage was increased last week. Mandy is accustomed to hometesting with a glucometer. The shelter might be able to pay for Mandy's insulin for some time after adoption. Mandy had a mild upper respiratory infection (URI) following shelter admission (not uncommon). DCIN was told her teeth are okay. She tested FIV/FeLV negative upon admission to the shelter and shelter policy would require she be up-to-date on vaccinations. The shelter has not noticed behavior problems such as inappropriate urination. DCIN was told that past vet records probably are not available. DCIN was told Mandy is not at risk for euthanasia at this time.
