A fork in the road, time to step back and regroup

June 28, 2012: This is not a post we care to write but unfortunately it has to be said. DCIN is in serious financial trouble and if things continue we will have to close our doors. For the time being, we have to reduce the amount of support we give to the needy sugar cats.

DCIN is no longer accepting applications for financial aid kitties. We will continue to care for the cats in our program as best we can using the donated items that we have in stock and will hopefully continue to receive, but we won't be able to pay for vet bills beyond what we can raise through the chipins.

DCIN will continue to network for kitties who need to be rehomed but we will not be accepting any new foster kitties into our program. The cats currently in DCIN foster care will continue to receive the same support they currently receive and we hope they will find homes, which has been our hope for them from the moment they came to DCIN.

You may wonder how this happened. It's not one cat or one foster that caused us to have to slow things down and possibly close things down. We've been hit with quite a few financial aid requests for kitties who were very ill and without our support would have been lost. Only a couple of those were DCIN foster kitties, the rest were and are at home with their loving owners but when the crisis hit, they needed help or they couldn't get their kitties well.

Our hearts are bigger than our wallet and at this time we have to take a step back and regroup. During this time we will continue to apply for grants and run our fundraisers in an effort to catch up. We'll be re-working our financial assistance guidelines and if any of you, our DCIN family and friends, have any ideas, please feel free to let us know. We are open to suggestions.

DCIN is still young and we have a lot to learn, but one thing that will never change--the DCIN family, its friends and volunteers, are an amazing group of people. You are able to open your hearts to specially-abled kitties and see beyond the baggage that those cats carry, to help them on their journeys to health and happiness, and to share in the sorrow when one does not make it but still continue to love and support DCIN kitties. You make every moment special, whether they are moments of tears or smiles, and we thank you all for your past support of DCIN and hope that we can count on you for continued support.
