Welcome home Whiskers

July 10, 2013--We heard that Whiskers has been adopted. Welcome home, Whiskers!

*******************************************************************************************************

May 25, 2013--This handsome little man is a courtesy post for a diabetic-friendly shelter group in Independence, MO.

Whiskers is a classic DSH orange tabby with a bit of white on his face and neck. He is estimated to be 5.5 years old. Whiskers is a big boy (the shelter vet calls him obese) at 18 pounds. He is neutered. He came to the shelter as a stray.

Whiskers has moderate dental tartar and needs his teeth cleaned. The shelter suspects chronic herpes because at intake in early May he had some ocular and nasal discharge and was put on an antibiotic. Whiskers is FIV positive but FeLV negative.

The shelter found Whiskers was diabetic when his intake bloodwork came back with a blood glucose level of 532. The shelter has started him on Lantus insulin and a canned food diet. We are told he is doing well and is currently regulated.

Whiskers is friendly and loves being held and cuddled with all the time

To inquire about Whiskers, please contact Great Plains SPCA. Whiskers is in this group’s Independence MO facility. His ID number is A19823887.

Whiskers is available for a long-distance adoption and the shelter or Cats of Independence Animal Shelter will provide a transporter in their local/regional area.
