January 21, 2013 - Today Princess had a blood sugar reading of 103. She had not had insulin this week and is going to be considered a kitty who is diet controlled.

I lost my Dad. Will you be my new Bean? |
***************************************************************************************
November 5, 2012--Princess in Southern Maine just lost her Dad. His funeral is today, and she is beside herself with loneliness. Her Dad's son stops into the house daily to give her insulin, food, and love, but it's just not the same as having her Dad with her.

Princess is an 11 year-old, indoor-outdoor, spayed, insulin dependent, DSH tiger cat. She weighs about twelve pounds. She was her Dad's only in-home companion for over ten years. "She is a very easy going and loving cat. Not really a lap cat though most of the time but she will sit on a lap for a while. she will stay nearby though."
Princess has never been around other animals. "She likes to bring chipmunks and mice inside while alive and place them in a dry bathtub to watch them run around. She never hurts them though."
Princess was diagnosed diabetic about three years ago when she was displaying hind-leg neuropathy. She has no known history of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) or hypoglycemia and is not accustomed to hometesting. "If you didn't know she was diabetic, you would think she was healthy. She appears normal and moves freely." She is on 5 units of Lantus once/day. "She has a great appetite. She eats M/D Feline dry food from the vet's office."
Princess "has plaque build up on her teeth" but "no behavior problems at all." She was last to the vet this past spring, is updated on vaccinations, and negative for FIV/FeLV.
Princess is not at risk for euthanasia, but "she is staying alone at my Dad's home and is very lonely. She is grieving his loss. I visit every day, inject her with insulin and leave the TV on Animal Planet for her at all times. An adopter should know she is a very sweet and loving cat and will make a great companion."

(where in So. Me is she?)
Hi, Connie. If you or someone you know might be interested in adopting Princess, please email me at Venita@dcin.info. We can talk about Princess's location at that time.
Venita! Just want to let you know that HART took Princess into our care yesterday. We are switching her to wet food and cut her insulin dose in half and will re regulate her! She's sweet!
I am thrilled, and I can't say that I am often thrilled by a diabetic cat going into a shelter. We will change up her information and announce on Facebook. Thanks so much to you and to HART of Maine.
