Pudge in CT
February 25, 2011--Pudge has been living at a vet's office for more than two years!! Let's break this boy OUT!!!!
Pudge lives in a cage at the Mount Pleasant Hospital for Animals in Newtown, CT (203-426-8585), although he gets play time 3-4 times/day. His people brought him to this vet for euthanasia because of inappropriate urination. The vet asked for surrender instead and diagnosed diabetes. The vet clinic has tried to find Pudge a home, but "no one wants to adopt a diabetic." Let's prove them wrong.
Pudge is a 5 to 6 year-old, DSH, white, "very sweet," neutered male that gets along with other cats and with dogs. He is in good body condition, weighing about 14 pounds. He has no known health issues other than being extra sweet, and no behavior problems (such as spraying or inappropriate urination). Pudge has no history of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) or hypoglycemia.
Pudge gets Lantus insulin twice/day, and is still mildly PU/PD. He is on prescription diabetic food, both dry and canned. He is accustomed to testing with a glucometer and is "in control, less than 300 most of the time." He is FIV/FeLV negative (but given his environment, we would want that retested before placement).
Pudge is not at risk of euthanasia, but he needs his own home.
