Nothing new to report on Ivan. I have to watch him carefully because he picks fights. When I’m away, he is isolated in my office (13’ x14’) with lots of windows.*************************************************************
He is still in remission which is nice. He is a very long and very tall striking cat who reminds me of a panther when he moves around. Still feel the best placement for him is with someone who has older kids to burn up his energy.
Intial post, 10/20/10--This is the first post on Ivan (formerly called Jules), even though he has been in foster with Claudia in MA for awhile. (I don't know, sometimes we just get busy and the less needy ones fall through the cracks.) He came to Claudia from Deborah in the spring of 2010.Deb once wrote me about Ivan..."[he] is so big he can stand on his hind legs and look into the bathroom sink." In that particular email Deb was excited that Ivan was 69 at +54. Yes, Ivan is a diet-controlled diabetic. Before he came to Deb (and I believe never got a shot of insulin), he was receiving 6U of insulin twice a day. Deb was surprised that Ivan was able to survive that. But, being a big cat and eating dry food...
Claudia took Ivan hoping to get him adopted through her rescue's adoption days at a pet store. But she has not yet been successful at finding him a home, so we are going broader, and going to be actively promoting him through DCIN.
In giving me a write-up for this page, Claudia told me:
Jules….[is] now Ivan (Boesky or the terrible)
Jules has been renamed Ivan (and he responds to it). Ivan is a very special cat. He is about 6 years old and very active and playful. When he came to his first foster home from a shelter, he was on insulin (lots of it). With careful food choices, he is now diet controlled and shows no signs of diabetes.
As long as he is fed a low carb wet food, he should be healthy and active for a long time. He also recently had a dental cleaning, so this boy is good to go!
Ivan is very active and mischievous, you know an ADHD cat. He needs kids to play with him and use up some of his Abyssinian-like energy. He’s the wrong color, but he sure acts like and kind of looks like an Abby. He is very tall, long and lean (and look at those ears). He loves a laser light and string (particularly shoe laces).
A household where he would be the center of attention would be ideal for Ivan. A female cat would be a good companion for him. Ivan does bully some cats.
